Some options for steel exterior doors

Steel exterior doors require quite some technical thinking. For instance, the method of opening (single, double, accordion) will also influence many other options, such as the flush bolts, latches and the type of door lock.

Type of lock

We can provide your steel doors with a lock body with cylinder lock, an espagnolette, a lock with Piet Boon design and even an electric lock is perfectly possible. We have both locks with 3 and 5 locking points available.

Finish at floor level

As standard, we finish steel exterior doors with an integrated drop seal. A drop seal is an integrated draught excluder on the underside of the door. It is not visible and prevents moisture and draught from entering.

Flush bolts & latches

With multiple doors, the closed door can be secured with traditionally manufactured and authentic-looking latches or with almost invisible flush bolts.

Division of glass pane

The number of subdivisions in your new doors depends on your personal preference. For example, you can opt for large glass surfaces with slim profiles for a minimalist look and maximum incidence of light. Or do you opt for slightly thicker profiles and smaller glass surfaces for a more rustic look?

About our profiles and thermal insulation

Particularly for doors that are opened and closed regularly, dimensionally stable profiles are extremely important. That is why, at Feral Group, we work with high-quality steel tubular profiles that are welded together in mitre joints with the greatest care. Even when used intensively and in changing temperatures and weather conditions, these profiles remain strong and retain their shape.

For outdoor applications, the steel profiles are always thoroughly pre-treated. They are powder coated, primed and metallized to make them corrosion-, UV- and weather-resistant, colourfast and maintenance-free. Stainless steel profiles are also possible for maintenance-friendly and corrosion-resistant exterior joinery.

Welded tubular profiles

For rooms that are not permanently heated (for example, outbuildings such as garages and verandas), our tubular profiles are very suitable. We carefully seal these profiles with modern putty after which we attach each glass pane separately in the sealant.

ART 15

If water tightness is top priority, ART15 profiles are certainly worth considering. These profiles have integrated EPDM seals so that they are 100% waterproof and windproof. They are fitted with double glazing as standard.

ARTE

Where thermal insulation is a priority, thermally interrupted ARTE profiles are better suited. The hard PVC embedded in the profiles ensures that no unnecessary heat escapes through the profile. In combination with insulating glazing you have the most energy-saving solution for steel exterior doors on the market.

Types of glazing

Insulated glazing

By default, we install double glazing with a U-value of 1.1 in our steel exterior doors. Other types of high-efficiency glazing are also possible. We have suitable steel profiles for every glass thickness.

Safety glass

Safety is a top priority. That’s why we use laminated safety glass to finish certain doors, windbreaks and glass balustrades on terraces or stairs. In the case of broken glass, small glass fragments remain stuck to the interlayer between the glass plates, which greatly reduces the risk of injury.

Other options

You can opt for clear glass, frosted glass or coloured glass. The possibilities to make your doors fit the style of your house perfectly are practically unlimited!

Types of finish

Putty   Our speciality

Our speciality is to seal steel joinery by hand according to the traditional principles. We seal each glass pane separately with the modern Soudal Tradition putty. We leave each side to dry for at least 48 hours before applying putty to the other side.

This putty seal offers many advantages. First of all, there is the impeccable-looking finish with UV-resistant and colourfast putty. The sealant also absorbs most of the shocks and torsional forces, greatly reducing the risk of glass breakage. If the glass does break, it is relatively easy to replace that particular glass surface. In that case, you do not have to replace the entire glass pane.

Glazing beads

If large planes of glass are to be fitted into the profiles on site, they must be fastened using glazing beads. These can be painted in the desired colour beforehand. An additional aesthetic advantage is that the view on both sides is the same. This means that there is no view of the glass leaning against the flat metal profiles.
